Guess what? I found my recovery phrase

About three months ago, I shared a post here about losing my recovery phrase and having to reset my cold wallet. I turned my whole apartment upside down looking for it but couldn’t find it. After sorting through a ton of scam DMs I received, the helpful replies made it pretty clear that my crypto was lost unless I found that recovery phrase. I was really struggling after losing it and ended up in the hospital the next day.

Now, I’m in the middle of moving and I thought I could save some cleaning fees by deep cleaning the place myself since it’s mandatory in my rental agreement. And guess what? I found the phrase tucked between the sheets of an old textbook. I still have no idea how it got there (I never took it out of the case I kept it in), but it’s found! I just restored my wallet and everything’s back!!!

I really want to make sure I never end up in this situation again. For those who are more knowledgeable or experienced, could you please share the best ways to store or secure my recovery phrases for safety? I’m not too interested in using a password manager or keeping it in digital form.

Thanks ahead of time. I’m off for a beer!

You did it, that’s awesome. Maybe now that guy digging in the landfill for his Bitcoin has hope too.

It might sound weird, but I wrote mine on a thick paper plate. It’s never gotten lost and stands out wherever I keep it. It’s survived three moves with me.

I can’t even imagine what he is going through. I get stressed just losing my motorcycle keys, so his stress must be way worse.

What’s a win if you can’t share it with friends

It must feel great to find it after thinking it was lost for good for three months.

That’s great! So, what’s in it?

It’s a list of 24 words to create the private key to his crypto. But that’s not the key point right now.

Seriously? You can’t be serious.

@Gael
I am serious and don’t call me Shirley.

Let me tell you, you’re going to watch the classic film Airplane for the first time tonight and learn a lot about internet jokes. You’ll have a great evening.

Congrats on finding it, but you say you didn’t put it where you found it. If that’s true, who did? If you’re sure you didn’t put it there, then someone else must have seen it and moved it. If it were me, I’d want to send it to another wallet with a new phrase.

@Corin
Good point. I suggest keeping paper copies in sealed envelopes so it’s obvious if someone sees them.

What’s the first thing you’re going to do with that $35 in ETH?
