Warning About a Whatsapp Scam with eth-bit.com That Could Steal Your Crypto

There is a scam happening right now. Do not visit eth-bit.com. A random woman reached out to me on Whatsapp claiming to be from Hong Kong.

It started with her saying she had the wrong number while looking for someone named James. Then she said

“I’m really sorry, I have many business partners in the US, maybe my assistant wrote the wrong number, please forgive me” (I got this message from someone else word for word)

She sent me lots of pictures and asked me to contact her on a personal number. Curious, I decided to play along.

For three days, she bombarded me with affection. She claimed to be 38 and said she was running a jewelry business in Miami.
Every morning, she sent a good morning message, and at night, a good night message. She also shared pictures of her meals, including one with a cake and another showing it half-eaten.

She discussed inflation and the economy while sharing photos of her travels in Tunisia and Hong Kong.
When I did a reverse image search, nothing came up. The metadata and EXIF data were removed from images and videos, except for one photo of Hong Kong taken on a specific date.

Out of curiosity, I kept engaging with her.

She mentioned that the US dollar is going to drop and said she was involved in foreign exchange. She even sent me a video of her playing golf and showed photos from a school where she donated $100,000. She claimed to earn $333,000 a year from forex trading.

I noticed she used Google Translate to communicate… which makes her grammar seem better.

She began showing me screenshots of her crypto portfolio, claiming to mine ETH 2.0 without any machines.
I mentioned it’s proof of stake.

One interesting thing is when I mentioned proof of stake she replied with proof of equity.

She claimed to make $7,000 a day in USDT and showed me a screenshot from eth-bit.com.

I sent her fake screenshots saying I had $500,000 in a wallet. She suggested I go to eth-bit.com to earn a daily ROI of 2.4% for keeping USDT in the wallet. I looked at the contract on etherscan.io.

The contract is linked to an address

Check those comments out!

People are warning about eth-bit.com. They say that approving the contract allows them to access your USDT. If you store USDT in your wallet, they can take it and will eventually withdraw it.

I told her I would invest $5,000 at first and then see returns for a week before putting in $100,000. 2.4k daily is hard to resist!

I’m planning to keep her interested, maybe get her to click on a link or something.

Let’s also see what we can find out from that site before I report it.

Thanks for sharing!

She went on showing screenshots of her crypto portfolio. She talked about how she mines eth2.0 without machines. I said yeah it’s proof of stake

I’m confused by this. You do know that eth2/proof of stake isn’t active yet, right? ETH is still proof of work, and you definitely need machines to mine it.

Still, it’s crazy that so many people fall for scams like this.

@Nolan
I was just going along to see how she reacted.

I get that now.

You should have asked her for explicit photos with her face in them.

I might still do that :grinning:
Maybe I can get more scammers and convince them to send nudes.

@Nolan
Yeah right, I’ll take your word for it. Your post sounds really fishy.

Watch out for token approval scams

eth-bit.com is a scam

I put a small amount into ETH-BIT this week and I’ve already cashed out the $100 minimum, which is now in my USDT wallet on Coinbase. It’s compounding since I added it to my principal at 2.4% daily. I haven’t taken any coins off my Coinbase wallet, and I was told you can’t remove coins unless you send them somewhere. I never added an address for withdrawal, right? So we’ll see if they can take from my wallet. I imagine Coinbase will have to compensate me if that happens. They claim on their Eth2-USDT.com site that their CEO is also the CEO of Coinbase! None of their auditing companies or Coinbase people recognize them, so I’d caution against investing unless you can handle the risk since it feels like a scam. That said, I’ve been paid, withdrawn my earnings, and reinvested, so I’m currently compounding. I’m not sure how to upload a picture here, but we’ll see if they steal my money or not. https://help.crypto.com/en/articles/4429836-how-to-connect-to-a-wallet-confirm-dapp-transactions

@Nolan
What should I do if I get scammed?

Let me explain how this scam works…

The risk comes from the contract they want you to sign. It’s not just an offer for you to keep your money in your USDT wallet. I’m unsure why the Ethereum devs allowed this. When you sign the contract, you give them rights to your USDT wallet without needing permission from you. They can withdraw at their convenience. They will ask you if you plan on adding funds, and if you stop, they will close the scam and take your funds.
I believe what they are doing is legal; the problem is they do not inform you that by signing the contract, you lose access to your funds. They will assure you that your money is secure in your wallet… but it’s not. If you’re using eth-bit.com, I suggest you contact Coinbase support and ask them to freeze your wallet. It might not help, but it’s worth trying. If you attempt to withdraw, I believe eth-bit.com will intervene, and your money will vanish. Don’t put yourself in a situation where you’re likely to lose money.
I think the real issue lies with Coinbase. I had a chat with them days before my wallet got drained, and they assured me my wallet was secure, even after I mentioned eth-bit.com in the discussion, which should have been a clear warning for them to step in and freeze my account. In my opinion, Coinbase is only interested in helping after the fact.
I’m unsure if the contract leaves any code in the wallet, but after so many years and numerous customers getting scammed, you’d think they would have taken steps to prevent this.
eth-bit.com even claims to partner with Coinbase, giving off a false sense of trust. I question whether Coinbase has made any effort to separate itself from these scams.
This scam works because people are often not informed about everything related to Ethereum. It’s a hard lesson to learn.
The only ones profiting from crypto investments are the criminals and a handful of lucky investors who buy low and sell high…
I believe Coinbase is neglectful; they should send out scam alerts or create a list of reported scam sites for us to be aware of.
So here we are, sharing knowledge on a forum after the knife has already cut.

@Chandler
I decided to start mining with BestETHmine.com, and it seemed stable with 1% returns daily. Then I was offered a 2% daily rate, so I transferred $19,997 to Metamask and signed up with www.uz-token.im. Four hours later, my balance was zero.
The other day, I tried a new mining platform via Coinbase wallet, www.ethereum-tkn.com, and minutes after signing up, I lost $9,497.
I’m out $24,484 and wonder if a class action against Coinbase and Metamask will get their attention regarding these contracts.

Did you have any luck? I’m currently talking to someone who directed me to that site. She got me all hyped to invest and lend money for Bitcoin interest. We’re chatting on Discord.

Head over to DeBank and revoke the contract from your wallet.
