I just switched from Coinbase to Kraken because of the lower fees, but I really dislike the layout. Coinbase had so much info on one page, but here I have to click around a lot. For example, when I convert from one coin to another, clicking on the trade only shows how much coin was traded. I have no idea at what price or how much cash it actually was. It doesn’t show me what the coin was purchased at like 1200 dollars at 9.07 per coin. This makes day trading tough because I have to click all over to find information. I feel like I need to write everything down now.
Is there a way to change the settings to get more details? Why do I have to click explore to see current prices? Why isn’t that just under the coin info in my portfolio?
Also, when I try to place a limit sale, I can’t see how much coin I have or any other info other than how much I can currently sell at the market rate.
There’s no real performance tracking tool in the portfolio in either version of the app.
It’s really frustrating that anyone trading, whether stocks or crypto, wants to see clear and detailed info like purchase price and percentage up or down.
This is really bad and very confusing, which seems intentional.
@Jasper
That’s what I think too. They don’t show a breakdown when converting coins. I thought I would trade at the current rate listed on their site and just pay the fees. But when I calculated what I actually got, the prices were much higher for buying and lower for selling. My math suggested I should have made about 500 dollars, but I was nowhere near that. Coinbase is not cheap on fees, but it’s way easier to see what is happening and move things quickly. I feel like I have to sit with pen, paper, and a calculator to trade on Kraken.
@Braint
This is exactly the reason why they don’t show that info. With a simple purchase, like BTC, they tell you how much BTC you bought and how much you paid, but they never show you the exchange rate. You have to calculate that yourself. Why? Because if they showed the rate, people would be surprised. You can limit that by using a limit price, but still.
@Baer
Oh I get it, so you just set the limit price, and it buys at that price. So if the market price is 1 and they offer you .95 for immediate sale, the limit order would skip that?
Even Kraken Pro shows you how much you bought at what price, which is truly bad for someone wanting to track their purchases. The app UI is really confusing.
I could be wrong, but that might be the case if you’re doing an instant buy with a card. I recommend using the Kraken Pro app. If you transfer money to Kraken first and then convert cash to crypto, the fees will be much lower and you can see the buy price with other info. But I’m not sure about instant buys.
@Wynne
How do I convert between coins on Pro? I’m trying to convert from Tether when the price is low and convert back when it’s high. I’m getting really frustrated, and if it’s not easy to use, I might face lots of issues.
@Braint
When you’re on Pro, you don’t convert; you buy or sell directly. Just click on any coin, and you’ll see the option. Sorry, but if this basic stuff confuses you, you should do more research before buying more.
@Wynne
I’ve been in crypto since 2014, it’s not all new to me. I’m just using a new platform and expected basic functions like converting coins easily, and it’s throwing me off.
