Crypto.com just became the 9th biggest exchange by spot volume, surpassing Kraken and Kucoin

Crypto.com is expected to outperform key competitors like KuCoin and Kraken by surpassing its spot trading volume of 31.9 billion on December 23—a 19-month record.
With little more than 3% of the worldwide spot market, Crypto.com has risen from position 11 to the 9th position in terms of spot volume. To put things in perspective, UpBit, the 2nd largest exchange, has more than 8% of the global spot volume.
With flash collapses, quick recoveries, and protracted consolidation following the SEC’s early January approval of an ETF, the market is still extremely volatile. By achieving 28.28 billion in volume (excluding derivatives) for the month of January thus far, Crypto.com has taken advantage of this opportunity.

The top 10 centralized exchanges by spot volume are:

  1. Binance
  2. UpBit
  3. OKX
  4. ByBit
  5. Coinbase
  6. Bithumb
  7. Huobi
  8. Gate.io
  9. Crypto.com
  10. KuCoin

No chance ByBit, OKX, and UpBit would be top 5 if wash trading was not a problem.

@Ocean
Upbit is huge in Korea. Check out the Korea premium. Coins often trade for 10-20% more on Upbit.

Why isn’t that being arbitraged?

It probably has to do with KYC or Korean laws.

@Jedise
That’s likely. Their regulations are very strict. Foreign exchanges find it hard to enter, which keeps UPbit’s monopoly on the Korean market.

Getting money out of Korea is tough because of capital controls.

Some folks call it the kimchi premium but you’re spot on. UPbit is massive in Korea.

I’ve never tried crypto.com, but the name is cool. Most of the top 10 exchanges have crummy names. crypto.com is awesome, binance is smart, coinbase is relevant, the rest sound like random side effects or nonsense.

@Arthur
Yeah, “crypto.com” is quite an original name.

“Creative” names are for those who can’t get a better one.

Here’s a list with wash trading percentages for BTC, ETH, LTC, and XRP:

  1. Binance (50%)
  2. UpBit (not tested in report)
  3. OKX (66%)
  4. ByBit (not tested in report)
  5. Coinbase (0%)
  6. Bithumb (not tested in report)
  7. Huobi (89%)
  8. Gate.io (25%)
  9. Crypto.com (not tested in report)
  10. KuCoin (74%)

Ranking crypto exchanges by spot volume isn’t a good idea since many fake their volume a lot.

That’s great news for Crypto.com

I expect the CRO coin to go up or down or maybe just stay the same as a response.

I miss the times when I could live off the BTC interest from CDC.

I wasn’t in crypto then, I think. I only showed up in 21. But it sounds like a good time!
