Looking for beginner ways to start in crypto without spending money

Is there a way to get into this side hustle for free or work on it without having a job or doing something out there? People close to me say crypto is like gambling even though they don’t really understand what it is. My main PC has an AMD 480 (8 VRAM), Intel i3, 16GB RAM, and runs Windows 10, so I’m not really sure if mining is going to be effective. It might be very slow, and I’m not confident it will even work.

I’ve also thought about crypto games like Gods Unchained, but I’m unsure if that’s the right way to start.

What do you think is a good way for someone new to start for free or get involved in crypto without having a job?

You should look into learn and earn programs. You can get around $70 for free from Coinbase. It involves completing various tasks, but it’s completely free. CoinMarketCap has free crypto options too.

There are likely other similar opportunities out there.

@Kellen
Binance offers something like that too.

@Kellen
Most of the tasks involve bridging ETH to different chains. Usually, you’ll cover gas fees with the rewards you get, at best.

I’ve never had to bridge anything for the learn and earn.

@Isle
In the Coinbase app, you don’t need to bridge, but in the Coinbase wallet, it typically involves on-chain actions. I participated in some games and staked VAR and GRT, but that also cost gas fees to earn rewards.

@Patton
Yeah, my mistake. I was thinking about rewards from the Coinbase wallet.

Shut up.

@Torin
That grass service seems like a scam. The “rewards” are still locked.

@Torin
Frenpet is a scam, and it’s not free. Stop promoting this nonsense. You have to pay to mint your pet and buy items like tea to keep it alive. The rewards are coming from new players joining. If people stop minting and trading, the rewards will stop too.

@Merlin
Minting a pet is currently free. You might have played back when there was a fee, but now it’s free. Yes, you need to buy a mushroom every few days to keep it alive, which costs about $2, but it’s easy to earn enough daily so that your profits exceed all your fees. It took me less than a week to get to that point. After that, you can sell anytime if you’re not profitable anymore, and you’re paid in ETH, which is likely to gain value in the future. The rewards come from people trading the token, including early users cashing out.

@Torin

You might have played back then

Yeah, I played it when it first came out during last year’s downturn.

Current prices cost around $2,

When I played, in-game items needed to be purchased with FP coin. Prices were not fixed in dollars. Everything was priced in FP. So when FP went up, keeping a pet became more expensive.

Earning more than fees seems easy

Everything incurs gas fees. Even spinning the wheel costs gas. If there’s no price fluctuation, no one trades, and no fees are earned. The fees are based on your rank. I find it hard to believe a newbie can earn more daily than what they pay in fees, especially when the market is stable.

@Merlin
Yeah, items like mushrooms are priced in FP, but the developers adjust costs based on the price of FP to keep it fair. For instance, I started when a mushroom was 0.4 FP, and now it’s 0.2 FP due to price changes.

I think you might be out of touch. The base has significantly increased transaction limits, which really helps Frenpet. Normally I pay around $0.05 for each transaction, and at most $0.2. If it gets too pricey, I just reject and wait for less busy times.

I know it’s hard to believe, but with minimal investment and a lot of clicking, I became profitable within a week. It’s not huge sums, but this thread is about starting in crypto with low investment. Gas fees are pretty cheap now, and they’ve raised the limits a couple of times recently.

You have to pay gas fees to use the base network since the game is on-chain.

Look, all these projects are using the points system now, some have been around way longer than grass, like blur, friendtech, and blast. They didn’t promise a date for the airdrop and then never deliver.

I personally think the whole airdrop farming thing is pretty silly, but at least with this one, you’re selling part of your existing internet connection, and you don’t have to purchase extra stuff to qualify.

@Torin
Do you even understand how that works, or just going by their word?

Also, check out Grass Q&A on Privacy and Security

Can my connection be used for illegal activities?

No. The network mainly gathers data for AI purposes and has no reason to do otherwise.

Those scraping activities lead me to think they can see what you do with your internet while using Grass.

@Kei
Grass promoters are the worst. Purely misguided.

@Kei
No, they can’t monitor your activity. They just want residential IP addresses to access articles for training since many sites block AWS IPs due to bot activity. If you’re concerned about privacy, run it through a different browser. I have it set up on a Raspberry Pi.

How old are you?

Also, what’s your gender and where do you live?

Sounds like someone in middle school to me.
