Just looked at Google Trends for Ethereum and here are my thoughts

Google Trends shares a lot about what people are searching for and where they are searching from. We can use this info to see certain trends. For example, a rise in interest around a topic might boost prices if that topic connects to investment chances. A good example is when searches for how to buy crypto go up during Bitcoin’s price rises and mainstream media coverage. I checked out Google Trends related to the search term Ethereum to see if there’s anything interesting and to figure out where we might be in the cycle right now. I also looked at how people misspell Ethereum, like Etherum, Ethreum, and Etheruem. Here’s what I discovered:

Interest over time

Interest over time shows the search interest compared to the highest point on the chart for a specific area and time. Think of it as a measure of how popular a topic is. The graph below indicates that searches for Ethereum are at levels we saw towards the end of the last bear market in 2020. Actually, interest over time remained steady from around 2018 to 2020. It peaked in May 2021 when the price of ETH hit $4000. ETH was around $600 by the end of 2020. I don’t want to guess, but the current interest in Google searches for Ethereum might suggest we could be on the verge of a positive breakout.

2. Interest by Region

This metric highlights where a search term is most popular relative to regional population, as calculated by Google. A higher score here indicates a higher percentage of queries for the term, not necessarily a greater number of searches overall. For example, a small country where 80% of searches are for “bananas” would score higher than a larger country with only 40% of its searches on the same term.

Top 5 Countries Searching for “Ethereum”**

The top five countries searching for “Ethereum” reveal some intriguing insights. Wealthy countries like Singapore and Switzerland appear on the list, which suggests substantial investment interest from regions with high standards of living. In addition, their favorable legislation toward digital assets may also be contributing to the growing interest in Ethereum. Conversely, the appearance of Kosovo as a leading searcher is unexpected, given its lower economic standing and higher reliance on remittances, a pattern also seen in North Macedonia. Slovenia presents a different case: though not as affluent as Singapore or Switzerland, it has a relatively high Human Development Index (HDI) and a solid standard of living, making it more aligned with other high-interest countries.

I think as prices rise, searches for Ethereum on Google will go up as well.

This metric shows where searches for the term are most popular. Google calculates this based on the area’s population. Essentially, a higher score means a larger portion of searches in that area but not necessarily more searches overall. A small country with 80% of its searches for bananas would score higher than a larger country with only 40% for the same.

Honestly, I doubt searches in a region matter to the topic you’re interested in. Some might just be looking into how to bring down ETH prices

It’s interesting that major Asian countries like India and China aren’t in the top 5. Imagine when they start searching more, the numbers could skyrocket.
