How can I argue for BTC with my dad?

My dad keeps saying Bitcoin won’t work because people can’t live on it and it’s too volatile. How can I argue against that point?

Your dad is creating a false choice between using fiat or only using Bitcoin. In reality, you can live off Bitcoin by spending it at stores or buying gift cards with it.

Personally, I spend Bitcoin regularly and replace what I spend. You don’t need to abandon fiat completely, but BTC can be used in many places.

I also shop at local merchants that accept Bitcoin. It helps them too, as they save on fees and avoid fraud.

Wow, I had no idea Costa Rica was so Bitcoin-friendly!

Honestly, don’t push too hard. People don’t like feeling pressured into changing their mind.

Good point. I just want to show him enough so that he takes Bitcoin seriously. He’s really smart, so I think he could appreciate what BTC has to offer.

@Cove
Debating directly might not work. A better approach is giving him some Bitcoin as a gift in a paper wallet with instructions. When it’s worth more later, he’ll get curious and start asking questions.

Another idea: pay for something in Bitcoin in front of him, like a meal at a Bitcoin-accepting business. This can show him BTC in action without pushing too hard. If he asks questions, keep your answers short and clear.

That video was great! Thanks for sharing!

Bitcoin doesn’t have to be a daily currency to work. Think of it like gold—it’s volatile but still valuable. Over time, as the market grows, Bitcoin’s volatility will decrease. You can live on Bitcoin by using services that let you spend it directly or convert it to fiat with a Bitcoin debit card.

If your dad’s worried about volatility, show him how volatile gold has been too: Gold Prices - 100 Year Historical Chart | MacroTrends

It’s volatile because it’s still new, but as more people adopt it, the volatility will settle down. Think of Bitcoin now like a small pond—big moves make big waves. But one day, it’ll be like the ocean, and even large moves won’t have much of an impact.

I really like that analogy!

The best way to get someone interested in Bitcoin is to give them a little bit of it.

Trying to convince someone who’s already against it is tough. Sometimes, the best way is to let them discover it on their own. Ask him about the flaws he sees in the current financial system. That can open the door to discussing how Bitcoin addresses those issues.

@Jet
That makes sense, thanks for the advice!
